Reader questions, answered plainly.

Who’s behind the handbook, how a guide gets checked, how you can tell a page is still current, and what we can’t help with. These are short answers, and each one points you to the page with the full story.

BEFORE YOU FOLLOW A GUIDE

A quick check that answers most questions

01   Read the opening lines. If something’s been updated, the note is there.

02   Look for the state and season notes near the top. Timing and rules can be different where you live.

03   Use the checklist in a how-to to make sure you haven’t skipped a step.

04   If the job needs a licensed tradesperson, stop there and call one. A guide can’t do that part for you.

05   Still unsure, or think we’ve got something wrong? Tell us.

WHO AND WHAT

About the handbook

Who edits the site?

Celeste Foster. We’re a small, independent website, and we’re online only. There’s no office or shopfront to visit. About the handbook →

Do you sell anything or take bookings?

No. We publish guides and how-tos, and that’s all. We don’t sell products, offer trade services, take bookings or arrange accommodation. Our reef and park guides are there to help you plan your own trip, so for a boat seat or a room you’ll need to go to the operator. Browse all guides →

CHECKING AND REVIEWS

How are guides checked, and how often are they reviewed?

Every guide is checked before it’s published. After that, we review pages in batches each quarter, so no guide just sits there going stale. How our guides are researched →

How do I know a page is current?

When we update a page, we add a note to its opening lines. The address doesn’t change, so a link you saved or shared will still take you to the latest version. Updates: what changed →

YOUR SITUATION

Can you give advice for my situation?

Not personally. We don’t give personalised professional advice. What our guides can do is show you the general picture and point out where things change from state to state or season to season. If you’re dealing with electrical or plumbing work, or anything else that needs a licence, the person you need is a licensed tradesperson.

Which guides should I read first?

01   Start here if you’re new to a subject and want the basics in order.

02   Hands-on when you’ve got a job to do and want the steps and a checklist.

03   In depth when you’re weighing up options and the honest answer is ‘it depends’.

CORRECTIONS

How do I suggest a correction?

Use the contact form. We read every message ourselves, and we’re genuinely glad to get corrections, because they help us fix the guide for the next person who reads it. If you can, let us know which page you mean and what looked wrong. We reply within 24–48 hours.
