Most of our how-tos are written for readers anywhere in Australia. Some are tied to one stretch of coast or one national park. Here’s which is which, so you can tell before you start reading whether a guide fits where you live or where you’re headed.
IN THIS GUIDE

A · AUSTRALIA-WIDE
Our home upkeep how-tos are written for houses right across the country. The basics of cleaning a path or setting a hot water system don’t change at the border, but the details often do. Water restrictions, the best months for a job and the settings you’re expected to use can all vary by state and by season. That’s why each Hands-on guide puts those differences up front, before the steps begin.
TRAVEL PIECES
These guides belong to one place each. Read them for planning and inspiration, then check local conditions before you set off.
B · WA CORAL COAST
Recent how-tos include Western Australia’s Coral Coast. The Ningaloo guide works through where to base yourself along the reef.
C · QUEENSLAND COAST
Two pieces cover Queensland: reaching the remote reefs off Cooktown in the far north, and getting out to the islands of the Capricorn Coast from Rockhampton.
D · NORTHERN TERRITORY
Kakadu changes a great deal with the wet season, so our guide is about what to know before you go at that time of year.
STATE AND SEASON
Australia is a big place to write one set of instructions for. A job that suits spring in one city can be a poor idea in another. The rules about water use, the months when gutters need the most attention and the right time to visit a tropical park all depend on where you are. If we buried that in the last paragraph, you’d find out after you’d already started.
READING, NOT BOOKING
We’re an online-only handbook with no office or shopfront in any of these regions. Our reef, island and park pieces are reading guides and inspiration. We don’t offer tours, bookings or accommodation, and we don’t send tradespeople to fix gutters or hot water systems. If a job needs a licensed tradesperson or professional advice, a how-to won’t replace them.
